Born and raised in East Oakland, CA, DJ BackSide has been DJin’ since 2002 when she first began at a college radio station in Southern California. After rocking the college scene at Williams College in MA, she graduated in 2003 and returned to her hometown of Oakland and began spinning in some of the hottest clubs in the Bay Area (The Sound Factory, Club NV, Mission Rock, The Velvet Lounge). In addition to providing hot mixes in the clubs and mixtapes in the streets, it’s BackSide’s talent on the microphone that truly keep the party hype!
In August 2005 and 2006, BackSide brought those skills to the international scene when she performed at The Ministry of Sound in Taipei, Taiwan. BackSide also graced 2 popular clubs in Germany’s capitol city of Stuttgart (Club Proton and Diva Palace) in December 2005. BackSide keeps busy outside the clubs too, putting out 16 mixtapes of her own since the beginning of her career. The most acclaimed are her “Got Bay?” Series of Mixtapes, featuring the hottest Bay Area hits and freestyles.
BackSide has displayed her mixing talents and on-air personality talents previously on 106.1/KMEL/SF and she’s been featured on several TV shows and publications including BET’s Rap City the Basement, BET’s Spring Bling DJ Battle Competition, MTV’s “My Block, The Bay”and A+ Mixtape ratings in Scratch Magazine and Ozone Magazine.
In 2006, DJ BackSide worked with Warner Bros. Records on the content and online radio station of www.hyphymovement.com, and became one of the top DJ's to help cultivate the movement Nationwide.
BackSide currently travels back and forth on the West Coast from the Bay to LA and is continuing to rock the club scene as well as Hip Hop and R&B stations syndicated through SuperRadio. Those stations feature DJ BackSide's mix once a month on 15+ Stations across the US. Also spinning frequently for MC Lyte, updating a daily Blog at www.djbackside.com with the new music, and periodically writing as a columnist for Ozone Magazine, keeps things busy for DJ BackSide.
